Father of Two Finds Relief from SI Joint Pain with Help from Dr. Buchanan

As a father of two, Matthew always kept busy and enjoyed living an active lifestyle. When he wasn’t making time to play with his kids, he was busy working on a military base, which required him to be physically active. Unfortunately, this took a toll on his back, eventually causing him to undergo a lumbar fusion. However, for Matthew, who was suffering from SI joint pain, the surgery only seemed to make things worse.

“I thought the surgery on my back wasn’t doing what it was supposed to, so they sent me in for X-rays and an MRI. Then, they determined it was the SI joint causing the pain,” Matthew stated.

This prompted Matthew to look for another solution, which is when he decided to consult with Patrick Buchanan, MD, at Spanish Hills Pain Management. Initially, Dr. Buchanan went with a conservative approach, using injections to help ease the pain. However, after further review, he noticed that Matthew’s SI joint was tight. This led Dr. Buchanan to recommend the LinQ SI Joint Stabilization System by PainTEQ.

Matthew Begins Searching for a Solution for His SI Joint Pain

Before opting for the LinQ procedure, Matthew had been in a great deal of pain. He had terrible muscle spasms in his lower back, felt lots of pressure in the SI joint, and his radiating pain was almost unbearable at times.

“It was very difficult to describe, but I remember I kept saying it felt like there was just not enough breathing room between the SI joint,” Matthew said. “I continued trying to keep my regular schedule and activity level but had to push through the pain to do anything.”

Desperate to find a solution, Matthew tried several treatment methods, including pain medication, muscle relaxers, physical therapy, stretching, and injections, all to no avail. Running out of options, Matthew decided enough was enough, and it was time to get his life back.

Matthew’s Pain is Gone After Receiving LinQ

Tired of trying temporary treatments, Matthew decided to visit Dr. Buchanan at Spanish Hills Pain Management to give the LinQ procedure a try.

“I decided I wanted to do something about the pressure in the joint and fix the problem rather than continue with bandaids,” Matthew said.

After undergoing the procedure, Matthew’s life made a complete 180. He now has no trouble playing with his two kids and can keep up with the physical demands of his job with ease.

“One of my goals with having this procedure was to be able to reduce my pain while climbing stairs so I would be more comfortable at work,” Matthew stated. “That goal has been more than accomplished, as I’m now able to do it with no pain at all!”

How Does the LinQ Procedure Work?

This cutting-edge procedure uses minimally invasive techniques to relieve pain caused by the SI joint. Using a small allograft, the LinQ SI Joint Stabilization System may provide long-lasting relief by keeping the SI joint in proper alignment. The LinQ procedure typically takes less than an hour to complete and utilizes a posterior approach to avoid any major nerves and blood vessels. In doing so, most patients are able to return home the same day, have relatively short recovery times, and have a small risk of complications.
